Calligraphy. I just love it! It is such a relaxing activity. I post a lot of the calligraphy I do over on my Instagram.
I started my lettering journey in late 2017 when I was all about brush lettering. I don’t remember what exactly got me hooked on the art but I was obsessed from the beginning.

Instagram is ripe with accounts to follow that are loaded with inspiration, tips and ideas. I have never taken a workshop or class or anything like that, I am fully self-taught. I am super amateur at the moment but I am so dedicated to getting better and better and maybe one day I’ll be half as good as some of the accounts I follow!

Earlier this year I began dip pen calligraphy. This is now my favourite thing to do. It is great stress relief and such a relaxing way to pass the time. Practice makes the best progress, and I do a lot of practice! I would love to one day soon take a class to learn more of the traditional types of calligraphy (Spencerian, Copperplate etc) but for now, I am happy to keep trying to get better at a more modern font.

My favourite way to practice lettering, whether brush or dip pen, is to put on some music and write the lyrics I hear. I also like to letter quotes that I see on Instagram. You know, those super inspirational ones.

I could never pick a favourite Instagram account to follow for inspo as there are literally hundreds!! Thousands!! I constantly find myself in an Instagram rabbit hole scrolling page after page after page! Instagram is an awesome tool for inspiration and to learn and all those things but it is also great for chewing up your time! It is so easy to get lost and then next thing you know, you’ve spent 3 hours on there!! I’m sure I am not the only one who has this problem…
I am so happy that I found calligraphy or hand lettering or what ever you want to call it. I have had a lot of “hobbies” over the years that have never really stuck with me, but I know this is one that I’ll have forever.
